Originally from Philadelphia, PA, he earned his degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1992. For the next five years, as part of his internship and residency, he continued advanced training in orthopaedic surgery. Having played on the Boston University football team, he had a particular interest in pursuing sports medicine. Following his orthopaedic training, he completed a year-long fellowship program, subspecializing in orthopaedic sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) in New York City.
As a specialist in sports medicine, Dr. Berg’s practice is focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sports-related injuries. He has been on the medical staff of multiple professional, collegiate, and scholastic teams, including as the orthopaedic team physician for the Washington Commanders from 2002-2008. Presently, he is the team physician for W.T. Woodson and Briar Woods High Schools.
He is one of the first in the country––and among only a handful in the tri-state area––to earn the distinguished Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (CAQSM). He has served on the public relations committee for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and as a principal reviewer for Sports Health: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach, as well as a preceptor for the VCU-Fairfax Family Practice Sports Medicine Fellowship. As a result of his accomplishments and his focus on patient care, he has been voted Top Doctor for Sports Medicine in the Northern Virginia region for multiple years by Northern Virginia Magazine.
Dr. Berg has authored numerous articles and conducted research on various sports medicine topics. He is presently one of a select number of sports-medicine orthopedists to participate in the Multicenter ACL Revisions Study being conducted through the AOSSM. Dr. Berg’s primary areas of focus are the treatment of injuries and disorders of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle with a particular interest in arthroscopic treatment for knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder stabilization, and rotator cuff repairs.
In addition to his extensive medical commitments, Dr. Jeffrey Berg enjoys athletics, exercising, martial arts, surfing, and spending time with his family and four children.
